Yes, this is a wonderful activity for families! Children (we suggest age 10+) enjoy the hands-on process, especially grating the coconut and seeing the oil appear. We ask that younger children have active adult supervision.

How much coconut oil will I make?

You will create and take home your own 100ml bottle of pure, fragrant, virgin coconut oil—a perfect amount to use for skincare, haircare, or in your cooking back home.

What is the difference between this method and store-bought coconut oil?

You will learn the traditional, pure method without any modern machinery or additives. The result is an incredibly fresh and fragrant oil, and you'll have the special memory of having made it yourself.

Is this a difficult process to learn?

Not at all! Our local instructors are very patient and skilled at guiding beginners. They make the process simple, fun, and easy to understand for everyone.

A Warm Welcome :

The Coconut Introduction

Your journey begins upon arrival at our traditional village home, where we’ll greet you with refreshing young coconut water. Your instructors will introduce you to the "tree of life" and explain the traditional process we are about to begin together.

Hands-On Prep :

Cracking & Grating

It's time to get hands-on! You’ll learn how to select the perfect mature coconut, crack it open, and then grate the fresh white meat using a traditional Balinese grater—it's a surprisingly fun and satisfying step!

The Creamy Heart :

Extracting Coconut Milk

By mixing the grated coconut with a little water and squeezing it by hand, you'll extract the rich, creamy coconut milk known as santan. This pure, white liquid is the foundation of the golden oil you are about to create.

The Alchemist's Art :

Simmering & Separating

With patience and gentle heat, the coconut milk is simmered in a wok. Your guide will show you how to tend to the mixture as the water evaporates and the fragrant oil magically separates from the coconut solids.

Liquid Gold :

Harvesting Your Pure Oil

This is the moment of triumph! Once the oil has clearly separated, we will carefully skim the pure, clear virgin coconut oil from the top. You'll marvel at the beautiful "liquid gold" that you have created from scratch.

A Treasure to Keep :

Bottling & Tasting

After allowing your oil to cool, you will bottle it to take home as a precious souvenir. We’ll also share stories about its many uses in our daily lives and let you taste the delicious toasted coconut curds left over from the process.
