Your adventure begins as we pick you up from your Ubud hotel. We'll travel to Taro village, where your guide, Gede, will welcome you and share the first stories of this special place, making you feel like a visiting friend rather than a tourist.

Our walk begins with a visit to the ancient and revered Pura Gunung Raung temple. You'll feel the tranquil atmosphere as Gede explains its history. We'll also pay our respects to the sacred white oxen, learning about their important role in Taro's spiritual life.

Jungle Trails & Holy Springs

We venture off the main path and into the cool, lush jungle. Following hidden trails, Gede will point out local plants and lead us to a sacred spring and the stunning Semararatih bamboo forest, a place of profound peace and natural beauty.

How difficult is the trek? Do I need to be very fit?

The trek is considered light to moderate. The pace is relaxed with plenty of stops. As long as you are comfortable walking on natural, sometimes uneven paths for a couple of hours, you will enjoy it.

Will we really see thousands of fireflies?

Seeing the fireflies is a truly magical experience, but it’s important to remember we are working with nature. Their activity can be unpredictable and is affected by things like weather and the phase of the moon. Our local expert knows the secret spots where they love to gather, and on many nights our guests are amazed by the sheer number of twinkling lights. Our promise is to give you the most authentic and memorable experience possible on any given evening.

Is this tour appropriate for children?

This trek is wonderful for older children (we suggest 6+) who have an interest in nature and culture and are comfortable with walking. The stories and fireflies are often a highlight for them!

What makes Taro village so special?

Taro is one of the oldest villages in Bali, with a unique history and spiritual traditions you won’t find elsewhere. Because you are guided by local guides, who is from the village, you get a much deeper, more personal insight than you would on a typical tour.
